Holdown Selector

Holdown connectors are typically used to anchor shearwall segments against overturning. This Holdown Selector is a quick and easy tool that selects the most cost effective holdown connector based on the type of installation, factored load and the species of the post. Holdown selection as well as associated anchorage design for the US has migrated to the Post-to-Foundation Designer.

This indicates a holdown model that meets the specified design criteria.
Factored Uplift Resistance 
This is the maximum factored load that each connection has been evaluated to resist.
Deflection at Factored Uplift Load 
This is the vertical displacement of the holdown connection at the factored resistance. This value may be reduced linearly for lesser loads including specified wind loads at h/500. This value is used to calculate shearwall deflection per 9.7 CSA 086-09.
Minimum Post Thickness 
This is the minimum end post dimension perpendicular to the face to which the connector is installed.
Required Fasteners 
This indicates the number and type of fasteners used to connect the holdown connector to the end post.

Application 
This is the application method for installing the holdown connector. The list includes acceptable nailed, screwed, or bolted applications for the design criteria specified. If an application is not listed, then there are no solutions for that application.
Model 
This indicates a list of holdown models that meet the specified design criteria.
Factored Uplift Resistance 
This is the maximum factored load that each connection has been evaluated to resist.

Installed Cost Index* 
The Installed Cost Index is used to compare the relative installed costs of similar connectors in order to identify which are the least expensive to install. The values are determined by combining the estimated cost of the connector, fasteners and labor for each installation and then presenting them in order from "lowest” cost to highest, showing the percentage of cost increase for each option.

Note:

Holdown and Tension Tie factored resistances are based on installation with an anchor rod length of 6" from the concrete to the top of the holdown seat. The products may be raised to any height with consideration of the increased deflection due to additional bolt elongation.
