Simpson Strong-Tie announces the acquisition of the TJ Shear Brace product line from Weyerhaeuser. The TJ Brace pre-fabricated shear wall complements the Simpson Strong-Tie Strong-Wall® shear wall product offering and is the only trimmable shear wall on the market for custom heights and rake walls.

Simpson Strong-Tie and Weyerhaeuser have a longstanding relationship that spans more than three decades, beginning with the collaboration on new products for the Trus Joist® engineered wood products line. The TJ Shear Brace acquisition is a beneficial decision for both companies.

Simpson Strong-Tie sales and technical reps are working closely with Weyerhaeuser to ensure a smooth transition for customers. If you have any questions, please contact your Simpson Strong-Tie sales representative.

Strong FrameB. Special Moment Frame Now Code-ListedStrong Frame® Special Moment Frame Now Code-Listed

The new Simpson Strong-Tie Strong Frame special moment frame is now code-listed (ICC-ES ESR-2802) to the 2006, 2009 and 2012 IBC®. The special moment frame is an economical solution for both new construction and soft-story retrofit in wood and light frame structures.

The special moment frame is built upon patented Yield-Link™ structural fuse technology that is designed to bear the brunt of inelastic deformation demands during a large seismic event. This new technology isolates damage within the frame, keeping the structural integrity of the beams and columns intact.

With bolt-on/bolt-off ability, the fuses are fully replaceable if damaged, making replacement easier since the beam and columns can remain in the structure during repairs. The replaceable Yield- Link structural fuse also enables the Strong Frame special moment frame to be designed without lateral bracing from the beam to the adjacent roof or floor diaphragm. There is no risk of fire when installed in an existing structure, as no field welding is required. For more information, visit www.strongtie.com/smf.

“I recommend Genuine Simpson Strong-Tie Connectors in projects I design because they are simple to install for contractors, have high load capacity, and low installation cost. This in turn gives the owner quality, low cost, and a structurally sound design. In the end, that's what I want for my clients.” James W. Richards, Senior Structural Engineer, Larson Engineering Inc.
