New Joist Hanger Selector Web App

To help customers quickly and easily find the right joist hangers for their projects, Simpson Strong-Tie introduces the Joist Hanger Selector web app. The app enables customers to select the most appropriate and cost-effective hanger for their projects based on the type of installation, type and size of lumber and loads. It features an easy-to-use interface so customers can quickly select the members and configuration for their desired connection and print the results. The app is accessible from any web browser and does not require downloading or installing special software.

Redesigned PFB/PFDB Post Frame Hangers

Simpson Strong-Tie has redesigned its line of PFB/PFDB Post Frame Hangers. The products feature dome-shaped joist nail holes that guide nails into the proper installation angle and a new style of installation prongs to help make setting the hanger quicker and easier. The PFB/PFDB hangers have a folded seat that raises the joist very slightly above the seat radius to enable a tighter connection to the back of the hanger. The hangers accommodate both collated nails and 10d common nails. New sizes are now available for 2x8 joists for more load capacity.

Steel Deck Diaphragm Calculator

Simpson Strong-Tie has a new Steel Deck Diaphragm Calculator web app. The calculator offers optimized steel deck design solutions based on cost or labor for a given shear and uplift. It makes calculations for any solution generated and produces a submittal package that includes fastener information, code reports, Factory Mutual reports, Appendix VII of DDM03, coating information and tools for installation. The app is accessible from any web browser and does not require downloading or installing special software.

Simpson Strong-Tie Sponsors Solar Decathlon Europe Team

Simpson Strong-Tie worked closely with Team Réciprocité, a partnership between Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and Université d'Angers in Angers, France, to help students build Maison Reciprocity, a solar-powered, sustainable multifamily housing building that was constructed using virtually all Simpson Strong-Tie fasteners. The structure consisted of six modular units and was built using primarily screws versus nails to provide superior holding performance. Simpson Strong-Tie sponsored the project and donated products as well as provided engineering support, fastener testing, product installation training and technical guidance.

In June, Maison Reciprocity took ninth place in the Decathlon with a score of 776.92 points.
