Simpson Strong-Tie has recently developed the KBS1Z knee-brace stabilizer for free-standing structures requiring strong lateral support. The KBS1Z makes a structural connection between knee bracing and columns or beams that are common in structures such as carports, pergolas and trellises. It complies with many prescriptive deck bracing requirements including the American Wood Council's DCA6 Prescriptive Residential Wood Deck Construction. The connector braces 2x, 4x and 6x in line post-to-beam configurations. The KBS1Z knee-brace stabilizer is finished with ZMAX® coating for corrosion resistance. For more information, click here.

Millions Drop, Cover and Hold On for Great ShakeOut
On October 16, nearly 26 million people participated in the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill. Each year, millions of people participate in ShakeOut, a global earthquake drill that serves as an opportunity to exercise safe practices during earthquakes. ShakeOut also provides education and resources about how to update emergency response plans and supplies. In light of the recent Napa earthquake and the 25th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake, Simpson Strong-Tie encourages customers and businesses to stay prepared with response plans and drill practices. Updated Anchor Designer™ Software
Simpson Strong-Tie has released an updated version of its Anchor Designer™ professional design software for ACI 318, ETAG and CSA. Anchor Designer enables users to satisfy the strength design provisions of ACI 318 Appendix D, CAN/CSA A23.3 Annex D, ETAG 001 Annex C or EOTA TR029 design methodologies. The software quickly and accurately analyzes an existing design or suggests anchorage solutions based upon user-defined design elements in cracked and uncracked concrete conditions.
New features of the latest update include:
Calculation of required base plate thickness
New indicator for adhesive and cast-in-place anchors to denote variable embedment depths
Removal of the Fsk <= 60 kN limit for uncracked concrete in ETAG design
Enhanced file-saving functionality for PDF files
Enhanced input capability for base plate dimensions
