New Composite Strengthening Systems™ for Structural Reinforcement

Simpson Strong-Tie introduces Composite Strengthening Systems™ (CSS) to provide efficient solutions for the structural reinforcement of buildings and other structures. Developed in-house, the company's initial CSS offering is a fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) system. The FRP system is designed to the specific requirements of each jobsite, provides a high-strength/stiffness-to-weight ratio and is installed by a network of qualified contractors to offer a cost-effective alternative to traditional strengthening and retrofit methods.

CSS solutions are suitable for a number of industrial, commercial and infrastructure projects, including seismic retrofit, load upgrades/change of use to the structure, damage repair and defect remediation/blast mitigation. Typical applications include the reinforcement of buildings, bridges, parking structures, industrial chimneys, piers/wharfs, tunnels and tanks/silos.

For more information about the new CSS product line, visit www.strongtie.com/rps.

LSUBH

LSUBH Bridging Connector Saves Project Costs

Simpson Strong-Tie now offers the LSUBH 20-gauge bridging connector as a lower-cost option to the popular SUBH/MSUBH u-channel bridging connector for cold-formed steel construction. The LSUBH provides all of the installation benefits of the SUBH/MSUBH connectors and is suitable for many wind- and load-bearing situations with light to moderate load demand. In many applications using the LSUBH, only one screw is required for installation. The connector accommodates industry-standard 1.5" u-channel bridging and 3 5/8", 6" and 8" stud thickness of 33 mil (20 ga.) through 54 mil (16 ga.).

New Deck-Drive™ DCU COMPOSITE Screw

The Deck-Drive™ DCU Composite screw is designed to work in all types of composite and encapsulated composite decking without sacrificing performance. The fastener's special head design provides a cleaner, less noticeable installed appearance. The screw is available in 11 colors that are matched to blend with most composite deck products. Other features include:

  • Inverted upper threads clear excess material to ensure the screw is seated properly and consistently
  • Tri-lobe thread reduces damage to the composite board while driving
  • Quik Guard® coating enables the screw to be used with many preservative-treated wood substrates.

The DCU Composite screw is available in bulk and collated for use with the Quik Drive® auto-feed screw driving system. For details, visit www.strongtie.com/deckdrive.

How-to Video Demonstrates Strong Frame® Special Moment Frame Installation

A new video demonstrating how to install a Simpson Strong-Tie® Strong Frame® special moment frame in an existing building is available. Several cities in California now require retrofitting of multi-unit soft-story, wood-frame residential structures that have two or more stories over a "soft" or "weak" story. The retrofit is designed to strengthen the building and prevent collapse in an earthquake. The Strong Frame® special moment frame provides greater performance and easier installation than traditional solutions.

The five-minute video demonstrates how to correctly install the template assembly and how to properly assemble the special moment frame in place. The special moment frame can be assembled at the jobsite and requires no lateral bracing or welding. For more information, visit www.strongtie.com/strongframe.
