The Strong-Wall® Shearwall Selector web application helps Designers select the appropriate shearwall solution for a given application in accordance with the latest code requirements. The new web app replaces the existing desktop software. The move from desktop software to a web-based solution will allow users to have the most updated code and product information. The web app includes a new user interface for easy navigation, 2015 IBC as a building-code option, Strong-Wall wood shearwall applications and anchorage solutions (garage front; standard wall on concrete; and balloon framed), and steel Strong-Wall and wood Strong-Wall anchorage updates to ACI 318-14.
Simpson Strong-Tie Engineers Discuss Resiliency in STRUCTURE®
Resiliency and soft-story retrofitting have been hot topics in the building industry for some time, and with good reason – natural disasters continually demonstrate how difficult recovery is for unprepared communities. Brandon Winter, P.E., and Damon Ho, P.E., two Simpson Strong-Tie engineers, recently cowrote an article for STRUCTURE® magazine that discusses these issues in the context of using special moment frames for resilient building and for seismic retrofits. The article includes a discussion on how our innovative Yield-Link® structural fuse allows our Strong Frame® special moment frame to circumvent many of the costly and labor-intensive challenges that face traditional special moment frames.
