Our New and Improved Deck Guide

The Deck Connection and Fastening Guide provides guidance for building safe, strong wood decks as well as instructions on how to recognize the warning signs of unsafe decks. In addition, it provides details for each critical deck connection (ledger connection, joist-to-beam connection, beam-to-post connection, etc.) and identifies the relevant building-code requirements (2012 and 2015 IRC/IBC) and connection options. Our deck guide can be a helpful reference to engineers who are getting acquainted with deck construction and can also bring them up to speed on revisions to the IRC that may call for engineering changes to a relatively simple residential deck design.

Titen HD® Anchor Now Available in Stainless Steel

The popular Titen HD screw anchor is a trusted anchor solution for cracked and uncracked concrete, as well as uncracked masonry. Titen HDs offer the performance that specifiers need, even in seismic conditions, and the ease of installation that contractors demand. Until now, however, they were not for use in permanent exterior or corrosive environments. The new stainless-steel Titen HD screw anchor (THDSS) sets the new standard for heavy-duty installation, even in severe environments. The code-tested THDSS (report pending) is the ultimate choice for fast and efficient installation, as well as long-lasting corrosion resistance that you and your customers can depend on.

Soft Story
The Whole Story on Soft-Story Building Retrofits
In recent years, cities on the West Coast have passed ordinances that require soft-story buildings to be retrofitted to increase resiliency. Navigating the soft-story retrofitting process can seem complicated, and resources can be scarce and scattered. In an effort to provide a central resource for soft-story retrofits, we created a new microsite, called Soft-Story Retrofits for Building Resiliency, that provides education, solutions and tools for soft-story retrofitting. This educational site provides details about each key step of the retrofit process. Whether you're a building owner, engineer, architect, contractor or inspector, you will find customized information about the city mandate and about implementing a soft-story retrofit solution.

To learn more about the Los Angeles mandate and the retrofit process, register to watch our on-demand webinar now on the five key steps to a successful soft-story building retrofit.
