We recently partnered with Build Change, a nonprofit organization dedicated to designing disaster-resistant structures in emerging nations, to create the first annual Simpson Strong-Tie Fellowship for Engineering Excellence. Consistent with our goal to build safer, stronger structures, this fellowship provides the unique opportunity for innovative engineers to work with Build Change in developing countries throughout the world. The program will work to develop and implement disaster-resistant designs for retrofit and new construction projects in emerging countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, and South and Southeast Asia.
James Mwangi has accepted the Fellowship position. Mwangi is a professor at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the Architectural Engineering department. The one-year fellowship begins on July 1, 2017.
