Simpson Strong-Tie News: March 2016

New CBTZ Concealed Beam Tie

The new Simpson Strong-Tie® CBTZ concealed beam tie combines structural strength with invisibility for applications that call for concealed joinery rather than standard beam-to-post connections. Whether designing for a custom indoor or outdoor living space, the tubular shape of the CBTZ allows an easy-to-install beam-to-post connection using common tools.

The CBTZ includes flattened sides for laying the connector on the beam or post in order to mark where holes need to be drilled. It also features locator tabs to provide proper dimensional layout of dowel pin holes and clear markings to reduce installer error. The CBTZ comes standard with ZMAX® galvanization for additional corrosion protection in outdoor or preservative-treated wood applications. Click here to view the flier.

Additional Steel Decking Solutions Now Available

Simpson Strong-Tie has expanded its line of steel-decking solutions to include the new Strong-Drive® XM Medium-Head Metal screw as well as the new Quik Drive® PROSDX150 Steel-Decking auto-feed screw driving system.

Featuring a 1/2" washer head, the Strong-Drive XM Medium-Head Metal screw is designed for narrow flutes commonly found on interlocking decks. In high-strength decks, these screws have proven to be a strong and cost-effective alternative to welds and pins.

The new XM Medium-Head Metal Screw can be hand driven or used with the Quik Drive PROSDX150, a multipurpose, auto-feed screw driving system designed for both steel deck fastening and for side-lap stitching. The PROSDX150 comes with a steel-decking attachment that allows for stand-up installations, a screwdriver motor and a screw quiver.

Simpson Strong-Tie Partners on Deck Safety Awareness

Simpson Strong-Tie is partnering with Mike Holmes on a deck safety awareness campaign and with Fine Homebuilding magazine on their Ultimate Deck Build 2016 to provide homeowners and construction professionals with insight into how to make decks safer and stronger.

Mike Holmes, professional contractor and the host and creator of the hit TV series Holmes on Homes®, launched his deck safety site this month to provide homeowners with information about how to check their decks for safety. The spring campaign, which highlights different deck safety tips each week, includes articles and illustrations provided by Simpson Strong-Tie.

Fine Homebuilding magazine has begun publishing a weekly online series of videos and an article as part of their Ultimate Deck Build 2016, where Simpson Strong-Tie lent its expertise on critical deck connections, including ledgers, beams and support posts, joists, guardrail posts and stairs.

Simpson Strong-Tie encourages everyone to learn how to assess the safety of their deck and to get their deck ready for spring. More information for construction professionals can be found on strongtie.com/deckcenter and for homeowners on safestronghome.com/deck.
